OSKALOOSA, Iowa -- Mount Mercy outplayed William Penn when it mattered most, including a 13-1 run to close the game and give the Mustangs a 77-67 victory over the Lady Statesmen in Wednesday's Heart of America Athletic Conference women's basketball game at Penn Gymnasium.
Mount Mercy (11-14, 8-6 Heart) was outscored by 11 points in the first and third quarters, but held a 21-point edge in the second and fourth periods. Trailing 66-64 with just over six minutes to go in the game, the Mustangs held the Lady Statesmen (3-22, 3-11 Heart) to a single point the rest of the way to close out their fourth win in the last five road games.
Madison Dreckman led the way for Mount Mercy, totaling 19 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Kyla Richardson added 18 points and five boards, Sammy Mia finished with 15 points and four assists. Cristian Patron gave the Mustangs a lift off the bench with 10 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three blocks.
Morgan Terry poured in a game-high 22 points for William Penn. She was joined in double figures by Zantasia White with 15 points. White also had five rebounds and three assists. Alexis True tallied eight points, seven boards, and seven assists.
Mount Mercy hosts Benedictine (17-6, 9-4 Heart) on Saturday at noon at Hennessey Recreation Center, then travels to Canton, Mo., for another Heart matchup with Culver-Stockton on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at 5:30 pm.
