CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa | The Mount Mercy Mustangs women's basketball team opened their home season with a commanding 71-52 victory over the St. Ambrose Fighting Bees.
Right from the start, the Mustangs proved to have control over the game as they outshot the Fighting Bees in almost every quarter of the game. In the second quarter alone, the Mustangs had a game-high 53.8 shooting percentage, going 7-13 in shots made, as they held the Fighting Bees to shoot 4-15, for a 26.7 shooting percentage.
This momentum carried on into the second half of the game as the Mustangs would continue to extend their lead as far as 25 points ahead of the Fighting Bees at the end of the third. Closing out the game, the Mustangs would end with a 43.3 shooting percentage on 26-60 shooting.
Claudia Vanzant was the only Mustang to end the night in double-double territory with ten points and ten rebounds. Two more Mustangs ended in double-figure points as Isabel Wallschlaeger ended the game with 14 points on 6-10 shooting and Malie Marfil with 13 points, shooting 5-7 in free throws.
The Fighting Bees were led by Abby Wolter with 13 points on 5-14 shooting and Olivia Harter with ten points. As a team, the Fighting Bees ended the game, shooting 19-58 for a 32.8 shooting percentage.
The Mustangs will be back in action on Friday, November 8th, as they face McKendree in Illinois starting at 6:00 pm.
