Mustangs Fall in a Tight Battle Against the Vikings

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - In a tightly contested conference showdown on Tuesday, the Mount Mercy Mustangs faced a tough battle against the Grand View Vikings at the Hennessey Rec Center, ultimately falling short with a final score of 73-67.

The Mustangs started the game with high energy, but found themselves slightly trailing by halftime with a score of 34-31 in favor of Grand View. The second half saw Mount Mercy fiercely competing, helped by strong performances from their top scorers. Sam Kiel led the team with 15 points, followed closely by Sadie Struchen with 14 points and Claudia Vanzant who contributed 12 points and notched eight rebounds.

The Vikings were paced on offense from a pair of 20-point scorers, led by Anna Gossling with a game high 24. Cleao Murray contributed another 20 on 6-18 shooting. The Vikings also saw four players record at least six rebounds, led by Gossling with seven.

Noteworthy was the effort by Annika Headington, who played a critical role with her defensive skills and playmaking, contributing across the board with six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Other significant contributions came from Madison Skelton and Isabel Wallschlaeger, who added to the team's tally and defensive efforts.

The Mustangs will return to the court after the holiday break, traveling to Lamoni on December 4 to take on Graceland.
