Mustangs reach match play finals, Aminuddin wins another Tier 1
WICHITA, Kan. -- Mount Mercy finished third in qualifying, then advanced to the match play finals before falling to top-seeded Sam Houston at the Mid-States Championships on Saturday and Sunday. Ayra Nur Jehan Aminuddin also captured her second Tier 1 individual title of the seasons.
The Mustangs were third in qualifying after six team games and 20 Baker games. They had a total pinfall of 9,153, slightly behind number one Sam Houston (9,265) and second-place Wichita State (9,178). Mount Mercy opened match play with victories over sixth-seeded Oklahoma Christian and second-seeded Wichita State before coming up short against Sam Houston in the final.
Aminuddin's 1,275 pins over six games provided a 27-point cushion over Bea Hernandez of Sam Houston. Megan Kolberg (870 pins/5 games), Brynna Madison (803/4 games), Mackenzie Ullian (730/4 games), Ashley Sundstrom (571/3 games), Jaelle Hamman (557/3 games), Jenna Williams (497/3 games), and Jasmine McKeel (361/2 games) also competed for the Mustangs.
Mount Mercy will host the Five Seasons Classic on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 30-31, at May City Bowl and the Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.
