Mustangs host Five Seasons Classic
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy bowling program hosted the sixth annual Five Seasons Classic at May City Bowl and Cedar Rapids Bowling Center over the weekend. Both squads reached the match play bracket but saw St. Ambrose claim the men's and women's titles.
In women's action, Mount Mercy claimed the top spot in qualifying with a total pinfall of 7,499 over five team games and 16 Baker games. Lindenwood was second (7,333), St. Ambrose third (7,299), and Culver-Stockton fourth (7,182). In match play, fourth-seeded Culver-Stockton defeated the Mustangs before falling to the Bees in the final, 2-1.
Individually, Ayra Nur Jehan Aminuddin and Jenna Williams were top-five finishers. Aminuddin placed second with 1,016 pins in five games, while Williams finished fourth with a total pinfall of 981. Styve Smedshammer of Grand View was the individual champion with 1,031 pins.
The Mustang men ended up third in qualifying, finishing with 7,786 pins. St. Ambrose was the top qualifier with 8,281 total pins, followed by Lindenwood (7,919), Mount Mercy, and William Penn (7,786). The Mustangs defeated third-seeded Lindenwood in the first round of match play, 2-0, then dropped a 2-0 decision to the top-seeded Bees in the final.
The varsity squad was led by Isaac Erickson with a total pinfall of 919. St. Ambrose had the top two individuals. Dakota Solonka was first with 1,111 pins while teammate Zach Greim wasn't far behind with 1,070 in five games.
The Mustangs are back on the lanes on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 13-14, at the Leatherneck Classic in the Quad Cities.
