Mustangs finish runner-up at PBA Collegiate Championships
INDIANAPOLIS -- Third-seeded Mount Mercy made a run to the finals of the 2023 PBA Collegiate Championships this week before falling to top-seeded Wichita State in Friday's final at Royal Pin Woodland. The championship match will air on FS1 on Feb. 19.
The Mustangs took out sixth-seeded Trine in the quarterfinals and second-seeded Pikeville in the semifinals on Thursday at Royal Pin Expo Bowl to reach the finals. Both matches went seven Baker games, with Mount Mercy coming out on top each time.
Friday's championship match was a best-of-three series, and despite losing in straight sets, the third-ranked Mustangs were right there with the top-ranked Shockers. Wichita State won the opening game, 214-211, and then clinched the title with a 180-174 victory in game two.
Mount Mercy's roster for the event included Megan Kolberg, Jenna Williams, Mackenzie Ullian, Jaelle Hamman, Jasmine McKeel, Elena Carr, and Brynna Madison. The Mustangs were part of an elite, six-team field that featured the top women's teams in the Dec. 26 edition of the USBC Collegiate Online Team Ranking System.
