Mustang bowling rolls to team titles at own Five Seasons Classic

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy men's and women's bowling teams cruised to team titles and six Mustangs garnered all-tournament honors at the eighth annual Five Season Classic this weekend.

The women's squad crushed the competition, finishing more than 600 pins in front of runner-up St. Ambrose. The Mustangs were at 5,291 pins after five team games then added 4,292 more over 20 Baker games to finish with a total pinfall of 9,583. The Bees were next at 8,948, followed by Grand View with 8,717.

Brooke Salzman and Megan Kolberg finished 1-2 in the women's division. Salzman earned all-tournament honors for the second-straight event with 1,137 pins and a 227.4 average. Kolberg, the reigning USBC Player of the Year, was only six pins back at 1,131 to go with a 226.2 average. Brynna Madison also landed on the all-tournament teams after racking up 1,051 pins with a 210.2 average.

The Mustangs also grabbed the men's team championship by a margin of 153 pins, which included 5,125 pins during team games and 4,358 more in Baker play for a total pinfall of 9,483. St. Ambrose finished second with 9,330 pins, Wisconsin-Whitewater third with 9,269.

Mount Mercy bowlers finished first, second, and fourth in the men's division. Kai Yamada was the overall winner with 1,174 pins and a scoring average of 234.8. That was just ahead of teammate Jacob Schram who counted a total pinfall of 1,141 and a 228.2 average. Joining them was Zach Andresen with 1,128 pins and an average of 225.6.

The Mustangs also swept the JV titles this weekend. The two JV men's teams from Mount Mercy finished 1-2 in that division with 8,852 and 8,436 pins, respectively. Same story on the women's side as Mount Mercy went first and second there as well with 8,145 and 8,133 pins.

The Leatherneck Classic is coming up next for the Mustangs. They will compete in the Quad Cities on Nov. 11-12.
