Men's bowling wins Warhawk; Mustangs put three on all-tournament teams

ADDISON, Ill. -- The Mount Mercy men's bowling team picked up their third tournament victory of the season, the women's squad led the field by more than 400 pins, and three Mustangs made all-tournament teams at the 2023 Warhawk Open on Dec. 2-3.

Wisconsin-Whitewater earned powerpoints off the final men's team standings, but it was Mount Mercy that rolled through match play for their third win of the year. The Mustangs also won the Leatherneck Classic on Nov. 12 and the Five Seasons Classic on Oct. 29. Mount Mercy's Zachary Joiner was the top individual on the men's all-tournament team with a total pinfall of 1,368 and a 228 average. Kai Yamada was runner-up with 1,341 pins and a 223.5 mark.

The Mount Mercy women were awarded the powerpoints in that division, while Davenport made it through bracket play to earn the championship. The Mount Mercy JV won the JV tournament. Individually, Megan Kolberg garnered all-tournament honors with a runner-up finish. She totaled 1,187 pins and a 197.83 average. Jazmin Koeberl of Marian recorded a total pinfall of 1,208 and a 201.33 mark.

The Mustangs are off until after the holiday break. They return to the lanes on Jan. 13-14 at the Illinois BPA Kegel Midwest Collegiate Classic back in Addison.
