Mustangs Shine on Day One of Warhawk Open
ADDISON, Ill. — Mount Mercy University's women's bowling team delivered a commanding performance on the opening day of the Warhawk Open, hosted by the Starrag Group in Addison, Illinois, on Saturday. Competing in the United States Bowling Congress Tier 2 tournament, the Mustangs established themselves as frontrunners heading into the event's final day.
The varsity squad led all teams in total pinfall, amassing 4,990 pins, outpacing Saint Xavier University (4,711) and Governors State University (4,702), who finished second and third, respectively. The team's effort was bolstered by standout individual performances, including Brooke Salzman, who ranked second in individual standings with an impressive five-game total of 1,093 pins, averaging 218.6 per game.
Savannah Dickson added to Mount Mercy's strong showing, finishing eighth individually with 1,024 pins and a 204.8 average. Teammates Nada Nawwarah Abdul Jalil and Elena Carr also placed within the top 20, with scores of 979 and 957, respectively. The junior varsity team contributed to the day's success, highlighted by Kaylee Lipp and Chloe Day, who placed 26th and 27th overall.
The Warhawk Open features a competitive field of 19 collegiate teams and serves as a key opportunity for Mount Mercy to solidify its position in the USBC rankings. Results from the concluding rounds will determine the tournament's champion tomorrow.
