Mustangs Rack Up All-Conference Honors
COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mount Mercy women's bowling team competed in their first Heart of America tournament, while several bowlers were honored with postseason awards and all-conference honors.
Head coach Andy Diercks was named the Heart of America Coach of the Year, leading the Mustangs to a No. 1 ranking in the USBC RPI system in the team's first season in the Heart. Brooke Salzman was named the conference Player of the Year, dominating the field during the regular season, rarely missing an all-tournament team across all competitions. McKenzie Mattice would also earn the conference Newcomer of the Year, given out to the individual who excels in their first season with the school.
Along with the Mustangs nearly sweeping the conference season awards, five Mustangs would also land on the all-conference team. Salzman, along with two-time conference Player of the Week Nada Abdul Jalil and Jaelle Hamman would land on the all-conference first team. Mattice and Elena Carr would highlight the all-conference second team, as the Mustangs would place the most bowlers on the all-conference teams, accounting for 33% of all athletes on the list.
The Mustangs will look ahead to the USBC ITC Sectionals, taking place March 7.
