Mustangs Fall in Bracket Play at NAIA Invitational

TOPEKA, Kan. - After winning their first two tournaments of the season, the Mustangs women's bowling team ended qualifying in first place, but ultimately fell in the opener of bracket play at the NAIA BCA Invitational.

The Mustangs held a steady 180 pin lead over eventual tournament champion, SCAD Savannah. The Mustangs ended qualifying and baker games with a total pin count of 9704, after taking a commanding lead following an impressive second day, where the Mustangs would lead the field by nearly 400 pins. Rounding out the top five of qualifying was William Penn (9253), Missouri Baptist (9130), and Ottawa (9115).

In bracket play, the Mustangs would be matched up with ninth seeded McPherson in a best of seven competition. McPherson would claim the first game while the Mustangs evened the series at 1-1 following a second game win. McPherson would snag the next two, including a one pin victory in game three. The Mustangs would then take commanding wins in games five and six, sending it to a decisive game seven, where McPherson ended the Mustangs run with a 20 pin victory.

On the individual side, Savannah Dickson landed on the all tournament team with a second place finish, ending the individual portion of the tournament with a total pinfall of 1086, just five pins off of first place, after narrowly missing a perfect 300 in game three, ending with a pinfall count of 298 in her third game of the tournament.

The Mustangs will next hit the lanes next weekend, taking on the Team Match Games in Fairview Heights, Illinois.
