Mustangs battle at Lady Panther Invite
BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The Mount Mercy women's golf team traveled to Silo Ridge Country Club to compete in the Lady Panther Invite hosted by Drury University yesterday and today. The Mustangs battled very hot temperatures and teed up against their toughest competition of the season going against numerous Division II teams. Mount Mercy placed 13th with a total of 649 (327-322).
After round one, Mount Mercy sat in 13th place, but only ten strokes separated them from fifth place. Despite improving by five strokes, the Mustangs ended in 13th place, again only eight strokes from being top five. Christian Brothers (Tenn.) took home the team title with 610 (308-302), Illinois-Springfield was second with 615 (313-302), Drury (Mo.) was third with 617 (308-309), Missouri Southern State was fourth with 624 (317-307), and Winona State (Minn.) was fifth with 626 (317-309). Heather McLean of Illinois-Springfield was the individual winner with a score of 149 (77-72).
Leading the way for Mount Mercy was Lucia Larruscain who fired back-to-back 77's to finish tied for 10th with 154. Breanna Felderman tied for 16th (76-80-156), Kirsten Miller tied for 61st (86-80=166), Aoi Ito was 74th (88-85=173), and Maddie Hornback was 81st (93-87=180). Also competing for the Mustangs as an individual was Gracie Murray who finished tied for 72nd (85-87=172).
Mount Mercy has a couple weeks to rest and regroup before they had south again for the Columbia College Cougar Classic on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 3-4 in Columbia, Mo. They will tee off at 9:00 am at the Columbia Country Club.
