Felderman, Larruscain nab all-tournament honors, Mustangs runner-up
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Breanna Felderman finished runner-up and Lucia Larruscain tied for fifth to solidify the Mount Mercy women's golf team a second-place finish at the Columbia College Cougar Classic this past Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 3-4 at the Columbia Country Club.
All six Mustangs competing in the field of 46 placed in the top 20. Felderman used a birdie and five pars on the back nine to improve by a stroke in round two (81-80=161), climbing up a spot in the field for her second runner-up finish this fall. Larruscain matched Felderman with an 80 in round two (83-80=163), for her first top five finish of her career. The pair landed themselves all-tournament team honors after putting together balanced rounds. Aoi Ito (83-82=165) and Kaitlin Hotchkiss (87-78=165) tied for 13th and Kirstin Miller (88-81=169) was 20th. Also competing for the Mustangs as an individual was Gracie Murray (79-85=164) who finished tied for 10th.
After the first round, Mount Mercy only held a two-stroke lead over Grand View. The Mustangs improved by 15 strokes in round two separating themselves from the Vikings. The host school and 24th-ranked Columbia (Mo.) took the team title at 641 (321-320), Mount Mercy was second at 653 (334-319), Grand View was third at 673 (336-337), Central Methodist (Mo,) was fourth at 675 (339-336), and Columbia "B" rounded at the top five at 695 (348-347).
The Mustangs have some time off before they compete again on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at the 18-hole Grand View Invite. It's a 9:00 am shotgun start at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny.
