Hotchkiss, Hornback, Ito go 1, 2, 3 to lead Mustangs
INDIANOLA, Iowa - For the second one-round tournament in a row, the Mount Mercy women's golf team had the top three individual finsihers. This time it was Kaitlin Hotchkiss, Maddie Hornback, and Aoi Ito at the Storm Spring Classic held at the Indianola Country Club on Wednesday. The Mustangs ran away with the team title, by 38 strokes over second place, Buena Vista.
The course was a unique par 70 instead of the more standard par 72. Nonetheless, Hotchkiss fired an impressive 74 to pace the field of 33, leading to her first individual win of her career with a +4. Hornback carded a 75 and Ito a 78. Also competing on the Mount Mercy "A" squad was Breanna Felderman and Kirsten Miller (79/tied 6th) as well as Alison Robu (85/tied 10th).
The Mustangs also had a "B" team, who finished fourth with a team score of 353. Hornback led the way with her first top five finish of her freshman campaign. Dulce Gefke and Grace Haas (92/tied 18th), Amelia Lueck (94/tied 24th), and Ellie Houston (96/27th) rounded out the Mount Mercy five.
Mount Mercy hosts their first MMU Invite on Monday and Tuesday, April 24-25. It is a shotgun start at noon at Ellis Park Golf Course in Cedar Rapids.
