Mustangs End Day One in Fourth at Heart Championships

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Mount Mercy women's team started their title defense at the Heart of America Championships on Monday, held at the Nicklaus Club at LionsGate GC in Kansas City.

The Mustangs would trail behind William Penn (+69), Baker (+71), and Park (+82), while the Mustangs would shoot a +119 over the first two rounds, improving their second round score by nine shots in the second 18 holes.

On the individual side, WPU's Olivia Lange ended day one in first with a total score of six-over. The top Mustang finisher would be Carli Irvine, shooting a 22-over for her first two rounds, shooting 11-over in each round, ending day one in solo 11th. Gracie Murray wouldn't be too far behind, carding a 26-over for two rounds, improving her second round by six shots, ending in a tie for 15th.

Lauren McPhillips-Newcomb ended her day in solo 24th at 34-over, shooting rounds of 17-over in each 18 holes. Grace Haas would finish one spot behind her in solo 25th at 37-over. Haas shot a 20-over in round one before improving her tally by three shots in the next round.

The Mustangs will close out the Heart of America Championships on Tuesday in Kansas City.
