Vikings stifle Mustangs
MARSHALL, Mo. -- Missouri Valley stifled Mount Mercy's offense and scored six first-half goals to defeat the Mustangs, 9-0, in Tuesday's Heart of America Athletic Conference women's soccer match.
While Mount Mercy (1-3-0, 0-3-0 Heart) didn't manage a shot all night, Missouri Valley (2-1-0, 2-1-0 Heart) bombarded goalkeeper Sarah Johnson (SR/Middle Amana, Iowa) and the Mustang defense. The Vikings totaled 37 shots, including 26 on-goal. Johnson finished with 17 saves.
Nicole Rubio got Missouri Valley on the board in the third minute, then a goal by Paula Inclan, two each from Morgan Diercks and Paula Ochoa made it 6-0 at the half. Second-half scores by Valentina Cardoso Rodriguez, Emily Rodriguez, and Paula Sanabria finished things off.
Next up for the Mustangs will be Saturday's Heart of America matchup with Park (0-2-0, 0-2-0 Heart) at 1:00 p.m. at the Robert W. Plaster Athletic Complex.
