Women's soccer falls at Baker
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. — Baker broke open a scoreless match with a pair of goals late in the first half, then added three more after intermission to defeat Mount Mercy, 5-0, in a Heart of America Athletic Conference women's soccer game on Saturday night.
Georgia Vernardakis had a hat trick and Victoria Aceves-Power tallied four assists for the Wildcats (7-1-1, 7-0-1 Heart), who out-shot the Mustangs, 31-3. Baker put 20 shots on goal in the match compared to just one for Mount Mercy (1-5-0, 0-5-0 Heart), who saw Sarah Johnson (SR/Middle Amana, Iowa) record 15 saves.
Mount Mercy plays their next three games at home before finishing up the regular season on the road. The Mustangs host Culver-Stockton (2-2-1, 2-2-1 Heart) on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at Hadzic Field at the Robert W. Plaster Athletic Complex in Cedar Rapids. Benedictine (6-1-1, 6-1-1 Heart) comes to town on Saturday, Oct. 31, for a 1:00 p.m. match and then Mount Mercy faces William Penn (2-8-0, 1-7-0 Heart) on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 5:30 p.m.
