Eagles soar over Mustangs

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Central Methodist scored in the second minute and never looked back in an 11-0 defeat of Mount Mercy in a Heart of America Athletic Conference women's soccer match Saturday at Hadzic Field.

The Eagles (5-1-0, 2-0-0 Heart), ranked eighth in the latest NAIA coaches poll, were led by Andrea Villar, who scored four goals. Villar also had an assist on the first of two goals scored by Marcella Helena in the 12th minute.

Georgie Wilson took Mount Mercy's lone shot. Mustang goalie Grace Byers recorded 10 saves.

Mount Mercy fell to 2-3-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the Heart. The Mustangs look to rebound Tuesday at Culver-Stockton -- kickoff at 5:00 pm in Canton, Mo. --  before returning home for a pair of matches Saturday against MidAmerica Nazarene at 1:00 pm and Sept. 28 versus Clarke at 5:00 pm at Hadzic Field.
