Pirates, Mustangs battle for first league win
PARKVILLE, Mo. -- Mount Mercy and Park each came into Saturday's Heart of America Athletic Conference women's soccer match looking for their first league win, but it was the Pirates who broke through with a 3-0 shutout of the Mustangs.
Lenvix Ochieng (20') and Abby Groom (34') provided first-half goals, then Groom added a second (73') to cap the scoring for Park (1-5-1, 1-5-0 Heart). The Mustangs (2-6-1, 0-5-1 Heart) out-shot the Pirates, 20-19, but Park doubled Mount Mercy's shots on goal, 14-7. Grace Byers once again posted double-digit saves, stopping 11 shots for the Mustangs.
Mount Mercy will be back at Hadzic Field at the Robert W. Plaster Athletic Complex on Saturday, Oct. 9, to host 19th-ranked Missouri Valley at 1:00 pm.
