Mustangs fall to Ravens in season finale

ATCHISON, Kan. -- Benedictine scored five times in the first half, including a pair of goals in the initial five minutes, and defeated Mount Mercy, 5-0, in a Heart of America Athletic Conference women's soccer match on Saturday at Legacy Field.

The Mustangs finished the season at 3-12-1 overall and 1-11-1 in the Heart and did not qualify for the postseason conference tournament. The 20th-ranked Ravens improved to 14-4-0 and 10-3-0 in league play. Benedictine received the No. 3 seed in the Heart of America Women's Soccer Championships and will host sixth-seeded Grand View on Nov. 6.

Megan Homoly and Madeline Stewart scored unassisted goals in the fourth and fifth minutes to give Benedictine a 2-0 lead right out of the gate. Sam Mausbach (25' 31') added a pair of goals and Rachel Beffa (34') scored the fifth and final goal to close the scoring. The Ravens tallied 22 total shots with 15 on frame while the Mustangs put 11 of their 14 shots on goal. Mount Mercy's Grace Byers had double-digit save numbers again, stopping 10 shots over 90 minutes.
