After a scoreless first half, Mount Mercy and Iowa Wesleyan combined for three goals in the final period with the Tigers coming out on top, 2-1, in the Mustangs' final non-conference contest of the season on Wednesday night in Mediapolis.
The Tigers (3-5-0) got on the board with Bella Goodson's goal in the 58th minute, which held up until Haley Hartshorne leveled the match at 1-1 with an assist from Nathalie Primbs in the 74th minute. As the game headed toward full-time, it was Ana Medina-Suazo of Iowa Wesleyan who drilled the game-winner in the 84th minute.
The Tigers held a better than 2-to-1 advantage in total shots but only put five on-frame. The Mustangs, out-shot 13-6 overall, had a total of three shots on goal. Mount Mercy's Grace Byers finished with three saves while Kylie Mulhern-Guillier had two stops for Iowa Wesleyan.
Heart of America Athletic Conference action resumes this weekend when the Mustangs (1-3-1, 0-2-0 Heart) host Park (2-2-2, 0-2-0 Heart) at 1:00 pm at Hadzic Field.
