Bastian Nets Brace as Mustangs Cruise on Senior Day

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Mount Mercy secured a decisive 3-0 win over William Penn on Wednesday night at Hadzic Field, improving to 7-5-2 overall and 5-4-1 in conference play.

After a controlled first half of possession, the Mustangs broke through in the 39th minute when Hannah Dodds finished a feed from Nadine Sanchez to open the scoring. Less than a minute later, Brielle Bastian doubled the lead, converting from close range on a beautiful header off an Eden Campbell assist. Bastian later sealed the result in the 81st minute, calmly converting from the penalty spot for her second goal of the match.

Mount Mercy outshot the Statesmen 6-7 overall but maintained superior efficiency in the attacking third, recording three goals on three shots on frame. Campbell led the team with four corner deliveries, while Manuela Gutierrez recorded one save to earn her seventh win and fifth clean sheet of the season.

The Mustangs honored nine seniors within the program, and will look ahead to Saturday, where a road contest with Central Methodist awaits.
