Mustangs Shine at the Hilltop Invitational
MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - Mount Mercy's women's track and field team takes home two event titles depsite placing fourth (89 points) at the Hilltop Invitational at Cornell College on Saturday. The Mustangs would also collect seven personal records and four season bests across numerous events.
The field events shined at the meet as the Mustangs would take first, second, and third place in the women's shot put. Bre Nail takes home the women's shot put title after throwing a mark of 12.93 meters. Teammates Ava Conrad (12.42) and Alyssa Striegel (12.36) would follow Nail, taking second and third, respectively.
Conrad would also claim the title in the women's weight throw with a toss of 15.02 meters. Jzonei Jones (14.63) would finish second in the event, with Nail coming in fifth (14.20).
In the high jump, Hailey Hartshorne takes a fifth place finish with a jump of 1.45 meters.
The Mustangs' distance runners also showed endurance at the meet. In the 60 meter race, Kaylee Bunn would take fourth place with a time of 8.12 seconds, just surpassing her prelim time of 8.13. Kendall Orozco (5:36.76) and Annabelle Neal (5:41.20) would take third and fourth in the mile, with Abby Knepper taking second place in the 3000m race with a time of 10:32.34.
Grinnell would take first place with 129 points, followed by Cornell College (117) and Culver-Stockton (92) for the top three teams of the meet.
The Mustangs will compete again on February 1st at the Grinnell Invite in Grinnell, Iowa.
