Mustangs Nab Four Event Titles, Finish Third at Heart Indoor Championships
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Day two of the Heart of America Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships saw the Mount Mercy women's indoor track and field team take home four event titles, contributing to a third-place finish overall.
After claiming the 5000m title on day one, Abby Knepper added two more titles to her name. She won the 1-mile run, clocking in at 5:22.61, and dominated the 3000m race with a time of 10:44.66.
Corinne Gadient joined Knepper as an individual champion after winning the women's 800m race with a time of 2:17.42, placing her second in the school's record book and just surpassing the 'B' standard to qualify for nationals. Gadient also finished fourth in the 600m race, clocking 1:36.64, surpassing the 'B' standard for nationals and securing the third spot in the school's record book.
The Mustangs found success in several other events as well. In the 1000m, Catie Reittinger placed fourth with a time of 3:08.33, while J'Lyn Knutson followed in ninth at 3:14.57. The 4x400m relay team—Brooklyn Johnson, Catie Reittinger, Ester Attwood, and Corinne Gadient—finished third overall with a time of 4:04.84.
The field events also delivered strong performances. Bre Nail secured second place in the women's shot put with a toss of 13.26m, while Ava Conrad finished fourth with a throw of 12.48m.
Central Methodist claimed the women's championship title with 209 points. Benedictine finished second (162), Mount Mercy took third (100), MidAmerica Nazarene placed fourth (94), and Clarke rounded out the top five with 63.5 points.
