Mount Mercy Athletes Shine at SAU Tune Up

DAVENPORT, Iowa - Mount Mercy University athletes made a strong showing at the SAU Tune Up in Davenport, Iowa.

Junior Gift Gonpue led the charge with impressive performances in the women's sprints, claiming fourth in both the 60 meters, clocking in at 8.35 seconds, and the 200 meters with a time of 27.20 seconds.

In the women's 60 meters finals, Gonpue improved from her preliminaries time of 8.37 seconds to secure her fourth-place finish, while sophomore Gralynn Martin was right behind her, finishing fifth at 8.51 seconds, shaving off a bit from her preliminary time of 8.53 seconds. Gonpue and Martin's performances added vital points to the team's tally, with Gonpue contributing four points and Martin three.

The 200 meters saw Gonpue once again in fourth, adding another four points for the Mustangs. Martin wasn't far off, securing sixth with a time of 28.84 seconds, earning two points. Freshman Esther Oyunge and junior Danielle Dimmings also competed, finishing seventh and tenth, respectively, with times of 29.28 and 30.12 seconds. Oyunge chipped in with an additional point, marking a solid team effort.

Looking ahead, the Mustangs will host their next event on Friday, February 20th, in Maryville, Mo.
