Strong Showing for Mustangs at Rittgers Invitational
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Mount Mercy women's outdoor track and field team found success across multiple events at the Rittgers Invitational, hosted by Coe College on Wednesday afternoon.
In the sprints, Kaylee Bunn led the Mustangs in the 100-meter dash, finishing third with a time of 13.16 seconds. Gralynn Martin followed in fourth (13.27), Kiah Coffin in fifth (13.63), Miyah Fox in seventh (13.89), and Dayna Maiers in ninth (14.53).
Bunn also paced Mount Mercy in the 200-meter dash, finishing second with a time of 27.54. Martin placed third (27.88) and Coffin took fourth (28.86).
In field events, Haley Hartshorne claimed the high jump title with a mark of 1.37 meters. She also earned third place in the long jump, leaping 4.13 meters. Brooklyn Johnson placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 10.39 meters.
Ava Conrad took home the title in the shot put with a toss of 12.78 meters. Alyssa Striegel followed in third (10.81), Claire Geerts in fifth (10.66) and Grace Kelley in sixth (10.60).
Conrad secured a second title in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.71 meters. Kelley followed in fourth (40.28), Striegel in fifth (38.20), and Geerts in sixth (34.17).
In the discus, the Mustangs swept the top three spots with Conrad leading the way with a throw of 42.81 meters, followed by Striegel (39.25) and Kelley (38.61).
Fox earned the javelin title with a throw of 32.39 meters. Maiers placed fourth (23.80), Hannah Peters seventh (21.84), and Geerts eighth (21.47).
Mount Mercy returns to action on Thursday, April 24, at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
