CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy snapped a 4-match losing streak on Wednesday night and did so in impressive fashion, dominating Iowa Wesleyan in a 25-5, 25-10, 25-19 sweep of the Tigers a women's volleyball home opener at Hennessey Recreation Center.
The Mustangs improved to 4-5 overall while the Tigers dropped to 0-1. Mount Mercy won't play a match for nearly two weeks, but open Heart of America Athletic Conference play with three straight at home beginning Tuesday, Sept. 14, against William Penn at 7:00 pm. The Mustangs host Peru State on Friday, Sept. 17, at 7:00 pm and Graceland on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 2:00 pm.
Olivia Makinen led a balanced Mount Mercy offense Wednesday, totaling seven kills. Kendall McNaull added six kills, Cassidy Boche and Mackenzie Murphy five apiece. Waverly Roorda tallied 30 assists. Abby Redmond had a team-best nine digs, Boche seven, and Murphy and Brooke Beatty each finished with six. Beatty also had five of the Mustangs' 14 service aces.
