Havermann, Mustangs stay hot ahead of final week of regular season

CANTON, Mo. - The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team cruised to a three set Heart of America Athletic Conference sweep over Culver-Stockton (Mo.) on Saturday evening. Madi Havermann was a force to be reckoned with as she tallied 10 kills on no errors finishing with an impressive .909% attack percentage. She also added three blocks to shut down the Wildcat offense. The Mustangs won 25-13, 25-8, and 25-18 inside Charles Field House. 

Culver-Stockton (5-23, 1-17 Heart) hung around with Mount Mercy until the 11-10 mark in the first set. The Mustangs used a seven-point run to break it open and set the momentum for the remainder of the match. Mackenzie Murphy tallied two aces and the Mustangs got two blocks from Hallie Beider and Havermann during that swing. Mount Mercy also closed the set on a 6-1 run. The Mustangs held the Wildcats to under ten points on a -.036 attack percentage in the second set while hitting .536% on 16 kills themselves. Havermann tallied five of her ten kills in this set. Kendall McNaull and Murphy each had four in the second set as well. Mount Mercy broke a 7-7 tie with timely blocks from Jenna Brown to go up by four at the midway point in the third. Four straight Mustang kills, two from Havermann and one apiece from Alayna Westenberg and Cassidy Boche put the Mustangs in front 20-12 and they never looked back. 

Mount Mercy (21-6, 14-3 Heart) recorded their second highest team attack percentage of the season, hitting .327%. McNaull and Hailey Hested joined Havermann in hitting over .500%. McNaull finished with five kills on no errors and Hested two kills and no errors. Murphy added seven kills and Bedier four. Rylie Mussman finished with an impressive 20 digs in just three sets. Murphy added nine digs, Katie Korpriva eight, and Hested eight as well. 

Mount Mercy has their final regular season Heart matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 31 as Clarke (4-25, 3-14 Heart) comes to town for a 7:00 pm start. It is also Senior Night for six Mustangs: Cassidy Boche, Maddy Gates, Katie Kopriva, Kendall McNaull, Mackenzie Murphy, and Laila Sain. After the game, Mount Mercy will know their post-season seed, opponent, and time for the Heart quarterfinal matchup on Saturday, Nov. 4.
