Mussman Breaks Another Record As Mustangs Defeat Vikings in Home Opener

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa | Rylie Mussman has another record-breaking performance in the Mustang 3-1 win against the Vikings Tuesday night. 

The Mustangs would start the match on top as they took sets one and two 25-23 and 25-18 over the Vikings, giving them an early 2-0 lead. The Vikings, however, proved they still had some fight left in them as they overpowered the Mustangs in set three 25-23, forcing the match into a fourth set. After a hard-fought battle from both teams, the Mustangs would come out on top as they took set four 25-21 and the match 3-1. 

Offensively, the Mustangs had an outstanding night as they recorded 59 kills over 21 errors. Mary Kate Bendlage lead the Mustangs offensively recording 19 kills and hitting .190. Jenna Brown was not far behind Bendlage as she recorded 18 kills to pair with a .486 hitting percentage in the match. Hailey Hested had a remarkable night as she tied her four-set assist record with 48 assists, ranking her in the top six for the school's all-time assist leaders in a four-set match. 

Rylie Mussman had another outstanding performance as she recorded 49 digs, which would break the school's all-time dig record in a four-set match that she had previously broken a few weeks ago.

Ellie Dougherty led the Vikings offensively as she recorded 17 kills while hitting .191 with Brooklyn Roder not far behind as she tallied 13 kills and hit .217 in the match. Chevy Wagner-Chun led the Vikings defensively with 42 digs in the four-set match. 

The Mustangs will be back on the court as they travel to Davenport, Iowa for a tournament at St. Ambrose University, with a matchup on Friday at 1:00 PM versus Judson (IL) and on Saturday with matches at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM CDT.
