Mustangs Top the Bobcats in Four
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa | Mount Mercy dominates the court after defeating the Peru State Bobcats in four sets, with scores of 28-26, 25-16, 24-26, and 25-23.
The Mustangs started the match on top after recording 17 kills to pair with a .200 hitting percentage after battling point-for-point in an extended first set. Set two belonged to the Mustangs, as they had a .326 hitting percentage and 16 kills, overpowering the Bobcat's .152 hitting percentage and 12 kills. The Bobcats would take set three off a .300 hitting percentage despite the Mustangs recording 17 kills and having a .205 hitting percentage. Set four proved to be another battle to the end as the Bobcats would lead a majority of the fourth set, but the Mustangs would find their way back on top to win the match 3-1.
Jenna Brown had herself a night offensively after recording 22 kills with a .447 hitting percentage, just shy of reaching a personal record for most career kills in a match. Following right behind Brown was teammate Mary Kate Bendlage, who added 17 kills with a .194 hitting percentage and 14 digs. Hailey Hested had another record-breaking night after she collected 54 assists, breaking the school's record for most assists in a four-set match. Rylie Mussman would end the match with 22 digs.
Raevyn Russel was the leading attacker for the Bobcats, with 13 kills and a .289 hitting percentage. Close behind were teammates Erison Vanderschmidt and Kalyssa Fox, who each recorded ten kills in the four-set match.
The Mustangs will hit the court again on Saturday, October 19th, as they face off against the Graceland Yellowjackets in a conference matchup. The match is set to start at 1:00 PM CDT.
