Mustang Offense Leads to Sweep Over the Statesmen

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa | A dominating Mount Mercy offense lead the Mustangs to a 3-0 sweep over the William Penn Statesmen, 25-15, 25-21, and 25-20. 

The Mustangs would open the match, taking set one after recording a .224 hitting percentage with 16 kills out of 49 attempts, holding the Statesmen to nine kills and a .065 hitting percentage. Set two was still in favor of the Mustangs as they collected 14 kills out of 41 attack attempts, resulting in a .220 hitting percentage. The Statesmen were held to a .158 hitting percentage and 12 kills in the set. With the momentum on their side, the Mustangs would win the match after taking set three by keeping the Statesmen from being able to get anything going offensively, holding them to a .056 hitting percentage compared to the Mustangs' .219 hitting percentage.

All around, the Mustangs were a dominant force in the match. Mary Kate Bendlage was one of the top attackers for the Mustangs, with 13 kills out of 39 attempts, resulting in a .179 hitting percentage, as well as collecting 13 digs. Jenna Brown was not far behind Bendlage with ten kills and a .222 hitting percentage. Sam Schrage rounds out the top three attackers for the Mustangs with eight kills and a .238 attacking percentage. Hailey Hested was able to record 38 assists and seven digs in the match, along with Rylie Mussman adding 17 digs. The Mustangs would end the match with 43 kills and a .221 hitting percentage, as well as 67 digs and 42 assists. 

Alyvia Johnson was the leading attacker for the Statesmen, with ten kills out of 33 attack attempts and a .182 hitting percentage, as well as collecting 13 digs. Lydia Huston and Emalee Young would end the match in the double-digits for assists, with 14 and 13, respectively. The Statesmen ended the match with 30 kills, a .092 hitting percentage, 30 assists, and 57 digs. 

The Mustangs will be at home again on Friday, October 25th, as they host the Park Pirates in a late-night conference matchup, with a start time set for 7:00 PM CDT.
