Mustangs Get Swept By the Ravens in Three Sets
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa | The Mount Mercy Mustangs Women's Volleyball team falls to conference opponent Benedictine after being swept in three sets, with scores of 25-17, 25-22, and 28-26.
Opening the match, the Mustangs were unable to get things going offensively as the Ravens were able to hold the Mustangs to a .079 hitting percentage along with eight kills as a team. The Ravens ended up winning set one behind 17 kills and a .293 hitting percentage. In set two, the Mustangs started to put up a fight as they were able to record ten kills to go with a .125 hitting percentage, but the Ravens were able to nudge past the Mustangs to take set two, extending their lead over the Mustangs 2-0. The final set of the match proved to be a head-to-head battle for a win as the Mustangs were fighting for a set victory to extend the match but fell short as the Ravens would end up winning set three and the match after recording 22 kills and a .236 hitting percentage. The Mustang's best set of the match was in set three, as they were able to string together 14 kills and had a .200 hitting percentage.
Mary Kate Bendlage ended the match with ten kills and a .143 hitting percentage, leading the Mustangs offensively, as well as collecting ten digs. Not far behind were teammates Sam Schrage with seven kills and a .167 hitting percentage and Bella Dantzler with a .364 hitting percentage to go with five kills. Hailey Hested ended the match with 26 assists and 12 digs, with Rylie Mussman adding 19 digs.
The Ravens' offense was led by Mahala Sewell, who recorded 16 kills and a .250 hitting percentage. Regan Bruggeman followed Sewell with ten kills and a .143 hitting percentage, as well as teammate Maura Lickteig, also with ten kills and a .316 hitting percentage. Haley Cahill was able to collect 27 assists and 11 digs in the match for the Ravens.
The Mustangs will travel to face off against the Grand View Vikings in Des Moines, Iowa, on Tuesday, October 29th, in a Heart of America Conference matchup, with first serve set for 7:00 PM.
