Women's Cross Country Takes Second in Season Opener
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA | The Mount Mercy Women's Cross-Country team placed second at the Mustang Gallop Friday night to open their 2024 season.
Abby Knepper dominated the course by placing first in the women's 5k race with a time of 19:18. Two more Mustangs finished not far behind her, Kalin Rotzoll at 19:59, placing sixth, and Ruth Jennings at 20:04 in eighth. Kayla Overton (13th/20:25), Emma Althoff (14th/20:30), Kendall Orozco (15th/20:49), and Jessa Day (20th/20:59) finish off the Mustangs top seven runners.
Wartburg's Nadia Bowden would finish runner-up in the race with a time of 19:30. Wartburg ended up pulling away from the Mustangs, taking first place in the race with 32 points, Mount Mercy with 42 points for second, followed by Dubuque (73), Cornell (97), and Southeastern CC (139).
The Mustangs will run again in Columbia, MO as Mount Mercy will compete in the Larry Young Invite on Sept. 15th at 5:30 PM CDT at Gans Creek Cross Country Course.
