BABSON PARK, Fla. - The Mount Mercy baseball team dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader to nationally ranked Webber International, falling by scores of 12-0 and 1-0.
Game One
The Mustangs were only able to record two hits in the opener of the series as Derek Einertson and Bryce Brown recorded hits, with Brown recording the lone extra base hits, while Josh Notriano stole a base.
The Warriors got on the board with a massive first inning, plating six runs across. The Warriors DH Jalen Martinez drove in three on a double, while Nate Cannizzaro added an RBI two batters later to make it a four run lead. Gabriel Cruz would then drive in two on a double, but would be thrown out trying to stretch a double into a triple, as the first inning would end with Webber up six.
The Warriors would add three in the third and three in the sixth, with Cannizzar and Martinez each driving in another run, as Martinez would end the game with two extra base hits. Martinez would also lead the team with four RBIs in the win.
Ashton Schwab was tabbed with the loss, his first since the 2023 season after going undefeated last year. Schwab would pitch 2.2 innings while allowing nine earned runs and striking out three. Hunter Blayne earned his fourth win of the year, throwing seven innings of two hit ball, striking out eight.
Game Two
Similar to the opener of the series, the Mustangs would only record two hits as the Webber pitching staff did a great job of keeping the Mustangs off the base paths. Jaden Hackbarth and Drew Terpins would each get on base with a hit, with Hackbarth recording a double.
The only run of the game would come on a groundout by Gabriel Cruz, who would drive in the only run of the game, as Deven Tedders would come across to score. The Mustangs pitching staff would hold Webber to just one run and five hits in the contest.
Owen Coffman was tabbed with the loss, pitching six innings and allowing just one run while striking out three. Mark Link earned the win, throwing five innings of one hit ball while striking out five.
The Mustangs and Warriors will wrap up the series in Babson Park on Sunday.
