Notriano Caps off Career Week as Mustangs Sweep Doubleheader with William Penn

OSKALOOSA, Iowa - The Mustangs swept the doubleheader to close out the weekend with William Penn, winning by scores of 7-5 and 8-3, as Josh Notriano capped off a career week.

Game One

Notriano would not only lead the team in hits in the opener, but also lead the squad in RBIs, recording three in each category. Notriano would be the only Mustang to record more than one RBI in the win.

Jaden Hackbarth drove in the game's first run on a solo homer to left center, but the lead wouldn't last long as Hector Dominguez hit a three run shot to give the Statesmen a two-run lead after two. Cedric Dunnwald would cut the deficit in half, tripling in the second inning to drive in Drew Terpins, making it a 3-2 lead.

The Statesmen woudl answer back with two more of their own over the next two innings, as Keoni Young homered while Zach Otten singled down the left field line, increasing the statesmen lead to three. In the fifth, Jaden Hackbarth trimmed the deficit to two as he scored on a wild pitch. Then in the seventh, Jeremy Figueroa doubled to left, scoring Hackbarth, while Notriano hit yet another three run homer on his already impressive week, scoring Bryce Brown and Jeremy Figueroa, as the Mustangs took a 7-5 lead while closing it down in the seventh.

Jack Turgasen earned the win, pitching six innings while allowing seven hits and five runs while striking out seven. Owen Brauch earned the save, throwing one inning while walking two batters and striking out two. Abel Madueno was tabbed with the loss, throwing 1.1 innings and allowing three runs on four hits.

Game Two

Similar to his other games this week, Notriano was tied for the team lead in hits with Hackbarth, each recording two, while Brown and Notriano each drove in a pair of runs. But it was the Statesmen who got the scoring started as Bradley Soto belted a two-run homer to give WPU the lead in the first inning.

In the second Yahirdavi Ortiz came across to score on an error by the Statesmen second baseman, trimming the deficit in half. In the third, Brown would drive in his two runs on a double to left field, scoring Figueroa and Hackbarth. Brown would then score on a wild pitch to increase the Mustangs lead to two. In the fourth, Figueroa drove in a run of his own on a sac fly to left, scoring Dunnwald, as the Mustangs held on to a 5-2 lead.

In hte fourth, Otten singled to left to trim the Mustang lead down to two runs. Bur Figueroa would come across to score on an error to increase the lead back to three. It was then up to Notriano, blasting another homer, but this time it was just a two-run shot, but that put the game out of reach as the Mustangs held on for the win.

Michael Schaul earned the win, throwing four innings and allowing three earned runs while striking out four. Joseph Taylor was tabbed with the loss, throwing a complete game but allowing seven runs on 10 hits and striking out seven.

Notriano would go on to end his week recording two hits in four of five games, totaling a .647 average throughout the week. He registered three games with at least three RBIs, including hitting a trio of three-run homers, with a two-run homer in the mix, registering 13 RBIs.

The Mustangs will head to Dubuque for their next series, taking place on Friday starting at 1 p.m.
