CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The sixth-ranked Statesmen of William Penn took down the Mustangs on Homecoming, taking the contest by a score of 3-1.
The Statesmen got off to a strong start, scoring two first half goals. John-Joe Mullane scored the first goal of the game in the 20th minute, while Luigi Mongan took a pass from Connor O'Reilly to make it a 2-0 WPU lead. Chafik Elidrissi was able to get the Mustangs within one, as he took a pass from Ilija Kosoric and fired from long range and was able to put the ball in the net, as the first half would end in a 2-1 WPU edge.
In the 87th minute, Hugo Cornish took a goal kick from the Statesman keepr Sean Bohan, who used the long range pass to find the foot of Cornish to put it in the back of the net, making it a 3-1 Statesmen lead, which they would hold onto to be the final.
The Mustangs will be back in action to kick off the Heart conference road trip on Wednesday, taking on Graceland in Lamoni.
