Mustangs Charge Past Coyotes in Three-Set Rout
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Mount Mercy's men's volleyball team secured a 3-0 sweep over the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes on Saturday at Hennessey Recreation Center. Mount Mercy sealed the win with set scores of 25-20, 25-16, and 25-12.
The Mustangs took control of the match right from the start. Throughout set one, the teams were caught in an early battle, but the Mustangs pulled ahead to claim a 25-20 win despite hitting .111 and recording 12 kills in the set.
In set two, the Coyotes struggled offensively, hitting .000 with just three kills. The Mustangs dominated set two, hitting .500 with 15 kills to cruise to a 25-16 win. The Mustangs sealed their sweep over the Coyotes in set three after hitting a match-high .520 and recording 15 kills, for a 25-12 victory.
Guglielmo Illotti led the Mustang offense, recording 15 kills with a .370 hitting percentage and collecting seven digs. Gabor Toth trailed Illotti, delivering 12 kills on an efficient .550 hitting percentage. Gustavo Bauer paced the Mustangs, dishing out 34 assists with five digs, as Richard Struska led the Mustang defense with 13 digs.
Ryan Wagner led the Coyotes with seven kills while hitting .333, and Jaron Lindsay hitting .100 with six kills. Ethan Rickets guided the Coyote offense with 16 assists.
Mount Mercy (16-4, 11-3 HEART) will be back on the court at Viterbo on Tuesday, March 25, tarting at 6:00 p.m.
