Mustangs edge Wildcats in overtime
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy women's basketball team came back from a halftime deficit to edge Culver-Stockton, 73-69, in overtime on Wednesday in a Heart of America Athletic Conference matchup at Hennessey Recreation Center.
The Mustangs overcame a 9-of-21 (42.9%) performance at the free throw line to level their league record at 2-2. Mount Mercy improved to 3-7 overall while Culver-Stockton dipped to 7-4 overall with a 1-2 mark in the Heart.
McKenzie Stoehr came off the bench to lead a quintet of Mustangs in double digits with 15 points. She also collected four rebounds and four assists. Kyla Richardson added 13 points and a team-high eight boards. Madison Dreckman and Kennedi Fulwylie added 11 points each, Annika Headington tallied 10 points and matched Richardson with eight rebounds to go along with four assists.
Culver-Stockton's Addison Newbon led all scorers and rebounders with 28 points and nine boards. Aaliyah Ortiz was the only other Wildcat in double figures with 12 points. She also had six rebounds and four assists.
The Mustangs are at Missouri Baptist on Saturday for a non-conference contest at 3:00 pm in St. Louis, Mo. After that, Mount Mercy goes to Dubuque on Thursday, Dec. 16, to take on Heart of America foe Clarke at 5:30 pm at Kehl Center.
