Dreckman scores 30 in Mustang victory
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Madison Dreckman had a huge game Saturday for the Mount Mercy women's basketball team in an 80-59 Heart of America Athletic Conference victory over Benedictine at Hennessey Recreation Center. The sophomore transfer scored a career-high 30 points, connecting on 12-of-17 field goals, including six 3-pointers.
The Mustangs (12-14, 9-6 Heart) shot 46.2 percent (30-of-65) as a team and 41.2 percent (7-of-17) from downtown, with the five starters accounting for 71 points. Also scoring in double figures for Mount Mercy were Sammy Mia with 13 points, Annika Headington with 12, and Kyla Richardson with 10 points. Headington also led the team with 11 rebounds and seven assists.
The Ravens (17-8, 9-6 Heart) shot just 31.6 percent (18-of-57) overall and 32.1 percent (9-of-28) from 3-point range. Benedictine was led by Ali Brzozowski with 16 points and seven rebounds. Natalie Smaron scored 12 points and pulled down eight boards. Skylar Washington had 15 points to go along with three rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.
Mount Mercy never trailed and led by as many as 14 points in the first half, with Dreckman scoring 20 points in a 46-33 halftime lead. The Mustang lead climbed throughout the third and fourth quarters, peaking at 27 points with 3:47 remaining.
The Mustangs face Culver-Stockton at 5:30 pm Wednesday in Canton, Mo., before returning home Saturday versus MidAmerica Nazarene. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm at Hennessey Recreation Center.
