Bonnemaison leads Mustangs to win with career night

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Anais Bonnemaison opened the game with two straight lay-ups to set the tone for the Mount Mercy women's basketball team. The Mustangs went on to score 31 points in the first quarter, nine from Madison Dreckman and eight from Bonnemaison, leading to the 87-70 win over the Statesmen inside Hennessey Rec Center. 

William Penn (2-6, 1-3 Heart) scored the first basket of the game, but Mount Mercy took the lead at 4-2 and never looked back. The Mustangs scored 50 of their 87 points in the paint, including 21 second chance points due to the 44-32 rebounding advantage they held. Bonnemaison's final points at the 3:39 mark in the fourth put Mount Mercy up by their largest lead of 22. 

Mount Mercy shot 51.5% from the field, getting buckets from 10 different players. Bonnemaison finished with 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting. She also went 7-for-10 from the free throw stripe. Dreckman added 19 points and Malie Marfil chipped in 11. For the second straight game, Annika Headington finished with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Karlie Krogman tallied six points and eight boards off the bench while Fumnanya Ijeh added four points down the stretch. 

Mount Mercy (4-2, 2-1 Heart) is back at home after the Thanksgiving break with two more Heart of America Athletic Conference contests. First, Missouri Valley (5-1, 3-0 Heart) comes to town on Wednesday, Nov. 29 for a 5:30 pm tip followed by Park (Mo.) (3-3, 1-2 Heart) on Saturday, Dec. 2 for a noon start.
