Mustangs roll into holiday break with big win at Baker

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. -- Madison Dreckman had 26 points and eight rebounds and Annika Headington added 13 points and 12 boards to lead the Mount Mercy women's basketball team to a 78-52 rout of Baker in Saturday's Heart of America Athletic Conference contest at Collins Center.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak and moved the Mustangs to 6-5 overall and 4-4 in the Heart. The Wildcats fell to 1-12 and 1-8 in league play. Mount Mercy won't take the court again until after the holiday break, hosting Culver-Stockton on Jan. 3 at 5:30 pm at Hennessey Recreation Center.

The Mustangs opened up a 17-10 lead after the first quarter on Saturday and held the Wildcats to single digits in the second to own a 35-19 advantage at the break. After a tight third period, Mount Mercy outscored Baker, 23-16, in the fourth to close out the Wildcats.

Malie Marfil tallied 11 points and five rebounds in support of Dreckman and Headington. Madison Skelton finished with nine points, Karlie Krogman and Anais Bonnemaison six apiece.

Leah Van Weelden led the Wildcats with 17 points before fouling out. Emma Cunningham posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Jaelyn Two Hearts joined them in double figures with 12 points to go along with five boards.
