Mustangs earn dominant road win

OSKALOOSA, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy women's basketball team led by 19 points at the half and rolled to an 87-56 victory over William Penn to get a season sweep of the Statesmen on Thursday night in Heart of America Athletic Conference action at Penn Gymnasium.

The Mustangs (9-7, 7-6 Heart) shot nearly 50 percent from the field and outscored the Statesmen (3-14, 2-11 Heart), 12-3, at the free throw line. Mount Mercy also committed just nine turnovers while forcing 16 William Penn miscues. Wednesday's victory also evened the Mustangs' road record at 4-4 on the season.

Four starters scored in double figures for the Mustangs. Madison Dreckman poured in 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Madison Skelton was 3-of-4 beyond the arc while scoring 17 points. She also collected five assists. Annika Headington added 14 points, nine boards, five assists, and three steals. Malie Marfil contributed 10 points, four rebounds, and three steals.

The Statsmen were led by Ally Stewart's 18 points. Mercer Roberts totaled 10 points and 10 rebounds, Aysia Arrowood scored 10 points and Alyssa Hames pulled down a game-high 11 boards.

Mount Mercy hosts Peru State (9-8, 6-7 Heart) on Saturday at 4:00 pm at Hennessey Recreation Center.
