CANTON, Mo. - The Mount Mercy women's lacrosse program dropped a road matchup with Culver-Stockton on Wednesday, falling by a score of 24-7.
The Mustangs got out to their first lead in program history, as Claire Ellsworth struck just 22 seconds into the matchup, giving hte Mustangs a one goal lead. The Wildcats would then strike for seven unanswered, taking a six goal lead, before the Mustangs were able to add two more from Princess Tacla and Brooke Caffrey. Tacla would then add her second goal of the matchup with just 15 seconds remaining in the opening half.
Mollie Lyon added a goal for herself in the third quarter, while Flora Jimenez and Cosette Denoyer each tallied goals in the fourth, but the deficit could not be overcome. Despite the loss Scarlett Belle Martinez recorded a career high 14 saves to help the Mustangs defensively.
The Mustangs will return to the field on Monday, hosting Missouri Valley with a start time set for 4 p.m. in Cedar Rapids.
