Wildcats get overtime win over Mustangs

CANTON, Mo. -- Angela Lloret rescued a Culver-Stockton squad that struggled to convert opportunities, finding the back of the net eight minutes into overtime to defeat the Mount Mercy women's soccer team, 1-0, in Heart of America Athletic Conference play on Tuesday at Poulton Stadium.

Mount Mercy (2-4-0, 0-3-0 Heart), which has dropped three straight since a 5-4 win over Hannibal-LaGrange in their final non-conference match on Sept. 11, hopes to break that streak on Saturday when they host MidAmerica Nazarene (0-6, 0-2-0 Heart) on Homecoming this Saturday at 1:00 pm at Hadzic Field in Cedar Rapids.

The Wildcats (5-3-0, 1-2-0 Heart) out-shot the Mustangs, 30-7, while putting 12 shots on goal. Mount Mercy hung in there behind a strong performance by goalkeeper Grace Byers, who stopped 11 shots. Trinity Register saved all five shots on frame by the Mustangs. Ayaka Matsumaru and Shelby Vermeulen each had two of those, Miran Sakai was responsible for the other.
