MARSHALL, Mo. — Mount Mercy fell 7-0 to Missouri Valley on Friday evening in Heart of America Athletic Conference play. The Mustangs were outshot 23-1 and could not generate sustained possession against a high-pressing Vikings attack.
Goalkeeper Manuela Gutierrez faced heavy pressure throughout, recording nine saves as Missouri Valley scored four times in the first half and three more after the break. The Vikings' Ashley Arribas led the offensive surge with a first-half hat trick, netting goals in the 6th, 18th, and 34th minutes. Missouri Valley added a fifth goal via an own goal early in the second half before Judit Ferre and Madi Hudson capped the scoring at 54:39 and 67:25, respectively.
Mount Mercy's lone shot on target came in the fifth minute from midfielder Savannah Stout, forcing a save from Missouri Valley's Marina Barbara Bujalance. Despite defensive adjustments and multiple substitutions, the Mustangs struggled to disrupt the Vikings' rhythm in midfield.
The Mustangs will round out the regular season next Saturday with a road contest with Park.
