Volleyball extends win streak to four
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team won two Heart of America Athletic Conference matches this weekend, extending their winning streak to four with a 3-1 victory over Peru State on Friday and a sweep of Graceland on Saturday at Hennessey Recreation Center.
Cassidy Boche and Mackenzie Murphy were the offensive leaders in Friday's 25-13, 21-25, 25-10, 25-18 victory over the Bobcats (2-11, 0-2 Heart). Boche had 12 kills to go along with 12 digs and four blocks while Murphy tallied 11 kills and nine digs. Hailey Hested handed out 43 assists with 18 digs. Rylie Mussman led the Mustangs with 26 digs, Abby Redmond added 19.
Mount Mercy (7-5, 3-0 Heart) rolled again on Saturday, sweeping the Yellowjackets (1-9, 0-2 Heart), 25-17, 25-13, 25-19. Murphy tallied 11 kills, Boche eight, and Olivia Makinen six. Hested finished with 24 assists, Mussman 17 digs, and Redmond 13 digs.
After winning four straight at home, the Mustangs are on the road for the next four, beginning with a short trip to Dubuque on Tuesday to take on Clarke at 7:00 pm at the Kehl Center. Next weekend, Mount Mercy goes to Missouri Valley on Friday for a 7:00 pm match and Central Methodist on Saturday at 1:00 pm in Fayette, Mo.
