Bartley hits 1,000-point mark, but Mustangs fall to Yellowjackets

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Ryan Bartley became the 25th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark, but it was Graceland that came out on top, 92-85, in Wednesday night's Heart of America Athletic Conference men's basketball game at Hennessey Recreation Center.

Bartley, who has scored at least 28 points in four straight games, poured in 29 against the Yellowjackets and sits at No. 24 on Mount Mercy's all-time scoring list with 1,014 points in two-and-a-half seasons. He also collected four rebounds and a pair of blocked shots Wednesday night.

Three Mustangs joined Bartley in double figures. Anthony Horton, Jr. continued his stellar play, finishing one rebound shy of a triple-double for the second consecutive game. He totaled 22 points, nine boards, and career-high 16 assists. Jakari Bradley came off the bench for 18 points and four rebounds. Rusmir Hamzic tallied 13 points and eight boards.

The Yellowjackets (10-1, 7-0 Heart) remained unbeaten in the Heart and were led by Aleksa Markovic's 24 points and five rebounds. Darrius Davis scored 15 points, Carson Busch 14. Amitai Afenjar tallied 13 points and a team-high nine boards. Patrick Fisher had four assists.

Mount Mercy (3-8, 2-5 Heart) heads into the holiday break after a trip to Baldwin City, Kan., to face Baker on Saturday at 2:00 pm. They will be back on the court on Jan. 3 when they host Culver-Stockton at 7:30 pm at Hennessey Rec Center.
