Bartley nets career-high, but Pride claim triple-overtime thriller
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Ryan Bartley poured in a career-high 35 points but Clarke's long-range shooting and free throw accuracy were enough to hold off a valiant Mount Mercy men's basketball team in Wednesday night's 98-94 triple-overtime battle at Hennessey Recreation Center.
Anthony Eddy, who was unconscious from 3-point range all night, nailed a trey at the end of regulation to send the Heart of America Athletic Conference game into overtime. The Mustangs again led by three but saw Eddy drill another triple to force a second overtime.
In that period, it was the Pride who moved in front, only to see Anthony Horton, Jr. convert a layup with 1:15 remaining to bring on triple overtime. Clarke led by as many as five, but Mount Mercy had a chance to tie it again when a 3-point attempt was off the mark. Carson Lindauer made 1-of-2 free throws to clinch it for the Pride.
Bartley also grabbed 10 rebounds to go with his 35 points for the Mustangs (7-17, 6-14 Heart). Horton, Jr. totaled 17 points, six boards, and five assists. Jakari Bradley added 13 points, Rusmir Hamzic 11 points and eight rebounds, and Aidan Yamilkoski 10 points, seven boards, and game-high four steals.
Eddy was 8-of-11 beyond the arc and finished with 28 points to lead the Pride (6-17, 4-15 Heart). Biggie Luster had 19 points, eight rebounds, and four steals. Chris Burnell chipped in 15 points and six boards, Daquon Lewis 10 points and five rebounds.
Mount Mercy hosts league-leading MidAmerica Nazarene (19-4, 17-2 Heart) on Saturday at 2:00 pm at Hennessey Rec Center.
