Mustangs Make It Four of Last Five with Win Over Viterbo
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Mount Mercy improved to 4–3 on the season Wednesday night with a commanding 92–65 win over Viterbo at Hennessey Recreation Center. The Mustangs controlled the game from the opening tip, posting a 46–31 lead at the half and maintaining steady production through the final 20 minutes.
Brayson Laube led all scorers with 30 points on 11-for-21 shooting, including 6-for-7 from the line. Laube's efficient scoring off the dribble and in transition set the tone early, as Mount Mercy shot 58.1 percent in the first half. Forward Jaxson Fried added 21 points and 13 rebounds for his first double-double of the season, anchoring the Mustangs' frontcourt with strong work on the glass.
Mount Mercy's balanced attack featured four players in double figures. Aidan Yamilkoski connected on 4 of 9 from beyond the arc for 16 points, while Jordan Willis contributed 9 points and 11 rebounds. The Mustangs' interior presence proved decisive, finishing with a 40–28 advantage in points in the paint and a 43–31 edge on the boards.
Defensively, Mount Mercy limited the V-Hawks to 37.9 percent shooting and just 20.8 percent from three-point range. The Mustangs also converted 18 points off 14 Viterbo turnovers while committing only 10 of their own.
Viterbo (2–3) was paced by Carson Koepnick's 14 points and Colin Adams' 13. Mount Mercy's bench outscored Viterbo's reserves 24–13 in second-chance points and dominated the rebounding margin on both ends.
The Mustangs end the four game homestand with three wins and take on conference play on Saturday with a road matchup against Baker in Baldwin City, with tipoff slated for 2 p.m.
